Karma Kagyu (H.K.) Buddhist Society
In 1982, the Karma Kagyu (H.K.) Buddhist Society was founded by His Holiness The Sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa, Rigpe Dorje - after his first visit to Hong Kong in the previous year. The Society is officially a non-profit organization, registered under Section 21 of the Company Ordinance of the Government of Hong Kong SAR.
The Society is dedicated to the study and practice of Buddhism, and in particular, the Karma Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
The Supreme Head of our Lineage is His Holiness The Gyalwang Karmapa whose Seventeenth Reincarnation is Ogyen Trinley Dorje, (b. 1985) and presently residing in Gyutu Tantric Monastery, Dharamsala, India. For more information, please visit His Holiness’ official website: www.kagyuoffice.org
The Seventeenth Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje was enthroned at the Tsurphu Monastery – the traditional main seat of all the Karmapas – in 1992 and had been residing there until the end of 1999.
For activities, the Society often invites Kagyu teachers from China, Nepal, India, U.S. and Europe to visit and conduct dharma programs (such as teachings, empowerments, practice instructions, pujas and other rituals) and also actively involved with the local Buddhist community. The Society also organizes ‘Life Release’ and ‘Group Practice’ events on a regular basis.
Our present premise covers an area of over 6,000 sq. ft. and has the capacity of holding over 400 participants. We are one of the oldest and largest Vajrayana centers in Hong Kong.
